Dental care and orthodontics
The Health Insurance Fund finances the treatment of oral and dental diseases, emergency care, and preventive services for its contractual partners.
Most oral and dental diseases can be prevented through good oral hygiene, a healthy diet, and regular visits to the dentist, at least once a year. However, if you do need dental care, the Health Insurance Fund will reimburse part of the cost of treating oral and dental diseases. The conditions for reimbursement of dental care may depend on your health status and other circumstances. For more information, see the dental care reimbursement page.
People who are entitled to free and essential dental care are provided with the necessary services free of charge.
Important to know!
All dental care services financed by the Health Insurance Fund are only available at medical institutions that have concluded an agreement with the Health Insurance Fund(Opens in new tab).

The Health Insurance Fund also pays for orthodontic treatment for adults in cases of cleft lip and palate, other congenital malformations of the maxillofacial system, and rare diseases, if:
- surgical treatment cannot be planned before the age of 19;
- a doctor has decided that orthodontic treatment must be postponed until the end of the developmental phase of the facial and jaw system due to the patient's medical condition.
The right to receive treatment is decided by the attending physician, not the dentist. In such cases, a longer than usual waiting period must be expected.
