Medical care abroad
If you live, work, study, or travel abroad, it’s a good idea to find out in advance when and how you can receive medical care if needed.

If you have valid health insurance from the Estonian Health Insurance Fund, we recommend that you always carry your European Health Insurance Card with you when traveling to European Union countries. With this card, you can receive necessary medical care under the same conditions as local residents.
However, if you are traveling outside of Europe, it is advisable to purchase travel insurance with medical coverage from a private insurance company.
Here you will find information on
- how to receive medical care in other European countries
- how medical care is organized for foreigners staying in Estonia, and
- what to do if you do not have your European Health Insurance Card with you.
